Letting Go

The past is the past, let it go!

That's what they tell you right?

Look at the picture, what do you see?

A kite floating away, and the girl watching it?

How about the scissors in her hand?

She cut the string, allowing it to fly away,

but she has not turned around and walked away,

she watches,

as if she's grateful for the time spent,

for the memories, and the lessons learned.

Letting go of the past doesn't mean forgetting it because that would make those experiences meaningless instead of life lessons.   Letting go allows those memories to be moments in time instead of moments that affect you emotionally.

The past always matters, but only if you allow yourself to let go of the meanings you put on those moments and use the lessons you learned to move you forward.

Sometimes, you need support through this transition outside the realm of close friends and family. A neutral, non-biased party can sometimes make all the difference. Consider connecting with a therapist if you struggle to let go or see the lessons learned.
