Trusting Yourself
Trust yourself… easier said than done, right? Yet, it is also an important part of growth.
The process from caterpillar to cocoon to butterfly appears straightforward. The caterpillar eats, and eats, and eats, essentially filling itself with all the carbohydrates required to complete the next part of its life.
Then it forms a cocoon and takes a nap, or at least that is how my childhood brain internalized this part of the process. Yet this phase's reality is very different from just taking a nap. This is the transformation stage, or the molecular breaking down of its body and reforming into something entirely new. I would hope that the caterpillar is at least unconscious, for it sounds like an unpleasant experience.
Next comes the breaking out of its former exterior and emerging as something entirely different. Now, it is allowed to rest and dry its wings. The process seems to be over, yet there is a final component that I don’t think people really consider: courage.
Throughout the gaining of knowledge (eating), cocooning (transformation), and resting (reflection), the next step takes courage.
Trusting that you will be able to fly.
I am told that this is one of the hardest lessons one can learn: to trust that these newly formed wings are ready to be used, that the knowledge you have gained is enough, and that you are able to jump into the unknown without falling to your death. All it takes is the courage to use your newly formed wings.
Sometimes all it requires is support, and a little nudge, two things I am happy to offer you. If you are interested in this type of support, contact me for a free 15 min consultation
